At this point, we already have an Olympic cycle well advanced towards Paris 2024 and why not say Los Angeles 2028, where the two sports that debut as Olympics, Surf and Skate, which have their own culture, in which Brazil is one of its protagonists, looking incredibly beautiful, even for someone like me who has always been very fond of Olympic martial traditions such as Equestrian and Judo.
It demands a greater understanding, Surf and Skate, of what they represent for the Olympic tradition, which is for example – Armistices – for what I believe is what I dedicate myself to in my meditations more in general. Sometimes we don’t have the solution for a lasting peace, but we get the possible peace for a short period of time. And this, for example, is a full feeling in the midst of my reflections when I stop to cheer for Team Brasil of Surf and Skate.
Both Surf and Skate in the deepest of their traditional cultures, although still apparently young for the Summer Olympics, represent peace in their essence. They represent what sometimes, when I try to talk about my Christian faith in the Paraíba Valley, something that still deserves more efforts, between for example a very strong Cult of Mother in Aparecida, and a Cult of Son still nascent in Guaratinguetá. This city, which since the mid-80s has been considered a Mecca for this sport, which has been reinvented in the region by efforts such as Pâmela Rosa through very well organized and very prestigious amateur championships, which will soon go into their third edition.
This type of Olympic representation of Peace, still nascent among all of us, but already very solid in our hearts and that of our young people, is what interests us greatly. Both in rescuing our young people for bright and authentic futures, as we can see, for example, what Sky Brown represents today in terms of Culture of Peace, Cult of Son, which practices skateboarding, surfing, dancing, and animates an entire tribe with its authenticity , his tender personality, his example of life and health, of irreverent joy as young people are and always will be. Above all, capable of understanding each other, and uniting in a tribe that becomes, at this point in history, the full symbology of what we need for the world today: Peace and Good!
