EN-US

It is difficult to talk about this, especially on the anniversary of 9/11, but I will try. Broadly speaking, I have remained a Christian—whether Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Episcopal, or Church of England—yet I have a long-standing friendship with what might be called (though perhaps not quite accurately, which is why it is hard to speak of them this way) the “Churches of the Great Disappointment” or apocalyptic groups. This is especially true regarding Jehovah’s Witnesses (“TJ” in Brazil); my connection began when I started developing a community called “The Watchtower”—named after the Bob Dylan song—which was actually a podcast, though the concept soon evolved into the *CoexistenceLaw* blog, coinciding with health concerns at the onset of the pandemic. To this day, I am frequently approached by them everywhere. I have even received copies of their printed *The Watchtower* magazine long time ago—which was once the largest paper-based printing operation in the world and is now a rarity—in places like New York and other inland regions. Locally, I am near the Association of Retired Military Personnel of Guaratinguetá and Surrounding Areas, where groups like the Mormons (Latter-day Saints) are also present; in certain U.S. locations—and among elite military groups, such as fighter pilots—one sometimes finds family structures involving a man married to more than one woman. I find this observation more appropriate, albeit delicate, than others I frequently hear. Just recently, I received a handwritten letter attributed to them; as I mentioned, they are active near the local retired military association—a place I used to frequent because my late maternal grandfather was a military man, and—for as long as I could afford it—my maternal grandmother included me in their health insurance plan. This also ties into my connection to “Safism”—not in the sense of *SAF* (“Sociedade Anônima de Futebol” in Brazil), but rather *Sustainable Aviation Fuel*. Beyond that—and knowing there are all kinds of missionaries all over the world—I haven’t been able to do much with the letter I received last week, nor have I engaged in any major Bible studies, even though for the past week I’ve felt a warm welcome from Episcopalians speaking about the unity of all “Children of God.” I’m somewhat concerned with certain historical markers—like the veterans here in Brazil who drew me closer to the Mormons, or the U.S. veterans associated with the First Church of Christ, and Scientist; that era of messianism has largely passed. My concern this week is whether the Fed has raised interest rates in the U.S. and how Scientists view the American economy’s expansionism—specifically the bond buybacks intended merely to prevent an uncontrolled rate hike. Yet, rates shouldn’t rise, simply because the country needs to reinvent its tech industry; it has long since become the world’s largest paper-printing operation—my dear, just like all the others. For me, it feels like the era of Bob Dylan’s podcast.
