EN-US

The 81st United Nations General Assembly has begun. Here on the CoexistenceLaw blog, I have argued that the World Health Organization is indispensable in a world where we must fundamentally approach biosafety in the most comprehensive way possible—capable of synthesizing the knowledge of all nations to find solutions for a situation that has effectively plunged the world into a kind of “communism” regarding global health problems. I often say that even those living in castles are never more than two or three degrees of separation away from people who ride the subway in any given city, like London or elsewhere.

Yet, we face immeasurable problems within this “Red Cathedral of Tina Guo.” For instance, there is the US government’s decision to stop funding the World Health Organization; meanwhile, in Brazil—as I always point out—we remain on permanent high alert due to our habits, whether it be *funk* music, massive festivals, *São João*, or Carnival. And suddenly—recalling the very first post on this blog, “Jair Bolsonaro at Ipiranga Gas Station” (https://coexistencelaw.org/?p=24)—we see a shift from the “ABC Punk” scene (which is truly golden—I always cite Ademir Leonardo Teixeira’s work, supervised by Edgard Assis Carvalho: *The Punk Movement in the ABC Paulista: Angels—A Radical Offshoot* [https://repositorio.pucsp.br/jspui/handle/handle/3833]) to a drain of public health resources stretching from that region all the way to Vila Belmiro—a contrast well-remembered from the days of Vila Euclides. This matters because universal, high-quality public health is an imperative that applies everywhere, from the UN to the middle of nowhere—or, as the saying goes, “the asshole of the world”—and right up to the Qualicorp jet used to erect private pyramids.
