Tributes have been paid after the Italian Golf Federation (FIG) and Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) announced that 16-year-old golfer Emanuele Galeppini was among those killed in the Crans-Montana nightclub fire during New Year’s celebrations in Switzerland.

The FIG paid tribute to Galeppini in a statement released through its official channels: “The Italian Golf Federation mourns the passing of Emanuele Galeppini, a young athlete who embodied passion and authentic values.
“In this moment of great sorrow, our thoughts go out to his family and all those who loved him. Emanuele, you will always be in our hearts.”

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), which is based in Switzerland, also expressed its deepest sympathy to the victims and their families, through its President, Kirsty Coventry,
“All of us at the IOC share with the Swiss people the profound shock of the tragic fire in Crans-Montana,” an official statement read.
“It has claimed the lives of so many people, many of them young people, who were out celebrating the New Year and never returned home to their families. Our hearts and thoughts are with all those affected by this terrible tragedy, and we wish all those injured a speedy and full recovery.
“We stand in solidarity with our host country and share with the Swiss people a profound sense of shock at this shocking news. The flags of the Olympic Museum and the Olympic House will be flown at half-mast as a sign of respect.”
