O Woodstock 1969 fez aniversário esses dias, e é uma bela história de um manifesto inédito aquele tempo contra a Guerra do Vietnam, a proposta de um festival de grandes proporções não era tão comum como o Brasil faz isso de tempos em tempos hoje muito habitualmente, mas também fundamentalmente é a história de Eliot Tiber, o que de definiria também como uma natureza mansa e pacífica, vindo de um período onde havia sido mais ativo politicamente, para viver junto as pais aquele sono profundo da cidade pequena, talvez além de viver com os pais, ou ter algum papel na câmara de comércio local, era único que lia o jornais mais habitualmente, que curiosamente se dá conta daquele anuncio que o festival estava em busca de um lugar em que pudesse ser realizado, das questões da época e tudo mais, e em certa medida o que ele poderia fazer para que ele próprio pudesse voltar de alguma maneira ao seu lugar na arte, no ativismo que tivera antes de ir viver com os pais.
Há por exemplo, como houve na época, e o meu leitor mais religioso se dá conta imediatamente, mas não é evidente para maioria das pessoas, mesmo os indícios estando postos aqui, o comentário na época por alguns, o filme de Ang Lee sobre o Woodstock passa isso muito discretamente, como um dos seus realizadores andando de cavalo em meio ao lixo deixado no final do festival, um tipo de leitura bíblica apocalíptica naquele momento da Guerra Fria.

Woodstock 1969 celebrated its anniversary these days, and it’s a beautiful story of an unprecedented manifesto against the Vietnam War at the time. The proposal for a large-scale festival wasn’t as common as Brazil does from time to time, very commonly today. But it’s also fundamentally the story of Eliot Tiber, who would also be defined as a gentle and peaceful person, coming from a period where he had been more politically active, to live with his parents in that deep sleep of a small town. Perhaps in addition to living with his parents, or having some role in the local chamber of commerce, he was the only one who read the newspapers more regularly. Curiously, he noticed that announcement that the festival was looking for a venue, the issues of the time and everything else, and to some extent, what he could do so that he himself could somehow return to his place in art, in the activism he had before moving to live with his parents.
There is, for example, as there was at the time, and my more religious reader notices it immediately, but it is not obvious to most people, even though the clues are here, the commentary at the time by some, Ang Lee’s film about Woodstock conveys this very discreetly, like one of its directors riding a horse through the trash left at the end of the festival, a kind of apocalyptic biblical reading at that time of the Cold War.
