Um dos dias que eu acho de mais belo sincretismo, o por ocasião dos fatos em Gaza peço pelo fim da fome naquele lugar. É o dia 25 de outubro, que na Wikipedia, lembra no Brasil o assassinato de Vladimir Herzog, pelo Regime Militar no Brasil, em 1975, bem como é comemorado como Dia de São Frei Galvão meu antepassado, Primeiro Santo Católico Brasileiro, que é sincrético com a celebração de Nossa Senhora da Palestina:
“A festa de Nossa Senhora da Palestina é celebrada todos os anos no dia 25 de outubro, mas este ano, devido à emergência do coronavírus, o purpurado, grão-mestre da Ordem Eqüestre do Santo Sepulcro de Jerusalém, quis reunir os membros da Ordem em torno do Altar da Cátedra de São Pedro.”
Para quem pretende dedicar o próximo período as orações de paz a Nossa Senhora da Palestina e a paz na Terra Santa, está feita a proposta. Como eu faço, e como tenho feito novena de São Miguel Arcanjo de quem sempre fui muito devoto, eu acho que nada é ao acaso, ainda me lembrava hoje, que quando fiz 18 anos, conforme a lei manda a todos os brasileiros, me alistei obrigatoriamente no 5º Batalhão de Infantaria Leve Aerotransportada de Lorena – São Paulo, , que Miguel Arcanjo é Padroeiro, e fui dispensado no mesmo ato aos 18 anos, e que teve papel importante na MINUSTAH no Haiti. Peçamos que a fome não vitimize nenhum irmão, como vimos no Haiti, pessoas comendo biscoitos barro, para aplacar a fome, como estamos vendo agora uma calamidade gigantesca em Gaza.

Syncretisms and Hunger in Gaza

One of the days I find most beautifully syncretistic is the one on the occasion of the events in Gaza, when I ask for an end to the famine there. It’s October 25th, which Wikipedia lists in Brazil as the assassination of Vladimir Herzog by the Brazilian Military Regime in 1975. It is also celebrated as the Day of Saint Frei Galvão, my ancestor, the first Brazilian Catholic Saint, which is syncretic with the celebration of Our Lady of Palestine:
“The feast of Our Lady of Palestine is celebrated every year on October 25th, but this year, due to the coronavirus emergency, the Cardinal, Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, wished to gather the members of the Order around the Altar of the Chair of Saint Peter.”
For those who intend to dedicate the next period to prayers for peace to Our Lady of Palestine and peace in the Holy Land, the proposal is made. As I do, and as I have been praying a novena to Saint Michael the Archangel, to whom I have always been deeply devoted, I believe that nothing is by chance. I was still remembering today that when I turned 18, as required by law for all Brazilians, I was obliged to enlist in the 5th Airborne Light Infantry Battalion of Lorena – São Paulo, of which Michael the Archangel is the Patron Saint. I was discharged at the same time at 18, and played an important role in MINUSTAH in Haiti. Let us pray that hunger does not victimize any of our brothers and sisters, as we saw in Haiti, people eating clay biscuits to alleviate hunger, as we are now seeing a gigantic calamity in Gaza.
