From the age of three, I have been captivated by both art and music, a passion that blossomed further with the arrival of my baby, inspiring me to sing lullabies and reconnect with melodies. My work, Musical Compass, channels this lifelong love, drawing inspiration from Wassily Kandinsky to explore the vibrant intersection of abstraction and music. In this piece, colour serves as a lively keyboard, allowing my hand to play melodies that resonate deeply with the soul. It emphasises music as an abstract art form that expresses inner feelings, with each hue treated with equal importance and presented independently, creating rich gradations and emotional harmony.

I am thrilled to exhibit Musical Compass at the Discovery Art Fair Frankfurt —my first exhibition in Europe—where this installation beautifully merges music and art into a dynamic expression of life’s cyclical nature! Merry Christmas!

My (Murilo Jambeiro de Oliveira) Post Scriptum:

Recently in “Jimmy Renda Se” (https://coexistencelaw.org/?p=1470) I spoke about the Oscar Nominees 2025 by Walter Salles, which in this musical compass by Tom Zé alone tells a whole story. Mine might be “Companheiro Bush” by Tom Zé, when in 2003 we would go down Paulista Avenue in our millions and down Brigadeiro to Ibirapuera, to see Tom Zé launch “Companheiro Bush” in the Park on a sunny afternoon, marching and singing “The Palestinian is my friend, he messed with him, he messed with me”, or “Enough with the bomb, enough with the attack, imperialism out of Iraq”, until I ended up in Bush’s lands in Brazil, which they said belonged to the Church, shouting “Free Homeland, we will win!”.
